Standard dowels are typically 15mm long.
On the engine I’m working on they protrude 4mm when fitted
I’m fitting a Uni side casing which has a chamfer to ‘lead in’ the dowel.
Seems to me that there will be very little location when fitted.
Is there any reason why I shouldn’t fit longer dowels to improve location?
Or does it not matter as long as they are in the right place however little contact is made?
Thank you
Alex

I can comfortably fit 25mm long dowels. So that’s what I will do. Sadly the cheapest supplier is in China. Would have preferred local but that’s modern life I guess.

I know that feeling... Had to get some stainless shims for the rear of vespa drive side bearing.. Couldn't find them in UK... Coppers from China and delivered quickly.

You could perhaps buy a length (300mm typically) of Silver Steel from eBay & make your own.
