Engine mounts - comfort

Postby TrackTen » Mon Jul 14, 2025 4:44 pm

I need to fit some new engine mounts - I am more interested in comfort than race track performance but would also like them to last a sensible amount of time.

My choices are

The latest Scootopia type
BGM
Or the latest Uni type

Any recommendations for my needs ?

A couple of years ago i had a strange vibration on the GP around 50 mph which cleared above 55mph, after a rebuild
Tried all the usual suspects nothing
In the end solved it by swapping out the new BGM mounts with some unbranded/SIL ones from scooter restorations.

As i said a couple of years ago. Maybe BGM are OK now?

I’ve used both BGM and SIL no issues with either

I like the SIL ones but it can be a lottery getting genuine ones

CamLam  :)

The Scootopia ones, as long as you can guarantee it is one of the later ones, are good. I did have one set which should have been later softer ones which patently weren’t though.

I've taken my s2 out after full rebuild and it's pretty much unridable. The vibration is unbelievable.

I thought it may have been caused by the head cowl touching the right hand side footboard. So I removed the footboard and went for a short run; no better.

The vibration is really bad. Could it really be just the small engine mounts that I've used?

It has a 62/110 crank which mighg be adding to the vibration, but not enough for this.

The last time I rode on old small type mounts must have been a standard one in the 80s but surely they weren't this bad?

Any ideas?

Was there a reason you fitted small ones ? I would think if your running a non standard set under it may be an issue just my thoughts though

Just to keep original looks. I know it's under the panels but you know what lambretta owners are like

I'll change the mounts if I have to, but I wanted thoughts on whether that was likely to be the cause before I rush in.

I really want this ready for ripon, but can't ride it there like this.
