Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.
first tip dont buy a cheap indian cylinder, they are rubbish without porting them, maybe buy the lambretta tuning manual by dave webster, some simple instructions that might give you what your looking for, bells 2 stroke tuning book is also very informative, it might give you a better idea of how simple and complex tuning can be.
I've been thinking they same for a spare engine i have under the bench.
My first thoughts were to leave the transfers alone as I think access is too tricky without specialist tools plus roof angle seems critical and probably beyond the scope of a rooky.
So basically just do the top and sides of the exhaust and inlet.
Any more knowledgeable folk got any advice for us?
I've never had a steel Indian barrel but several alloy ones. All were irredeemable as the bottom of the exhaust port was way too low and exposed the top ring.
Probably worth looking for a cheap 150 Spanish or Italian and boring to 62mm. I just got one for £7.
I've got an Italian 150 and it's bomb proof, so reluctant to start with that. But the ports are tiny compared to the AF 175 I've got. If I did take the risk with the Italian, I think it would be the inlet and exhaust.
you would be better to get a barrel and piston from a parts fair to work on my advice would be to get the best grinding wheels and a dremel type tool and you can take more off but you can't put it back so take it easy with the grinders and for starter just blue print your manifolds and transfers this will give the gasses a smoother flow but I have been reading your posts and learn to walk before you can run comes to mind just enjoy riding the scooter you've got what you're planning is a "winter job" as home tuning can leave your scooter off the road more than on till you've got it right
