Tool Box shape

Hopefully someone can answer this burning question:
Why is the lambretta tool box a different shape on the left hand side (when sitting on the scoot) compated to the right hand side?
The curve doesnt follow the full depth of the box.
If it was the same shape i dont think it would foul on anything so why the difference??
