Front shocks.

Need advice please, I can hear you shout, “ what!,,,, again”.
Anyway, if you don’t ask.. ref the above, they compress smoothly and without excessive force and there is smooth resistancewhen extending them,
If this was a vehicle shock I’d be happy to refit. As my scoot is standard TV175 with no upgrades and my riding style will gentle and pottering do you people think my description makes then serviceable.
I would have bought the Cambridge Lambretta ones £30.00 but they are out of stock and not really sure if I need to go to the £60.00 plus ones.

I’m no engineer but I would have thought that, from playing with a set of dampers in your hands, you can only tell whether they have lost all damping, or not. I believe dampers are service items and, after all these years, should be replaced. If you do that, from my experience, don’t buy the cheapest ones. They are cheap for a reason. The top section catches the bottom part under damping.

For what it’s worth, IMO if the dampers are a pair - as in manufacturer & age - & presuming the bushes are in reasonable condition, then if they feel the same in offering similar resistance in extending, very little compression damping, then I would be inclined to re-use them.

After all, should they fail when put back into use after years of hibernating, they are not difficult to change. Just look out for oil seepage, which is a sure sign of failure.

Keep in mind that OEM dampers worked so well that Dave Webster continued to use them on his race machines & that speaks volumes….

Thanks again for the advice, I am going to reuse them, in fact they are in primer a I type. I have no intention of scraping the stand, exhaust or runner boards when cornering. Those days have long gone, I’m a scary cat now.
Even though I’m very sure they are indeed serviceable, they are cosmetic in a way.
Cheers all
