VHSH needle and circlip wear

Postby Paul_from_Thornbury » Tue Jun 09, 2026 6:14 pm

I do love the VHSH but recently I’ve started to get excessive wear of the circlip and needle groove. It’s got to the point they barely last a few hundred kms.
I’ve seen info where people have used watchmakers circlips of much higher quality or using a half clip washer to try and isolate the vibration.
I’m wondering if my slide is excessively worn, causing the vibration. My float bowl is worn a little from cable rub. These two components alone are about €130. A whole new carb is only €230.
Any experience from other users or a better solution for the needle circlip?

All Dellorto needles wear and should be considered a replacement part, as necessary, but I have experience of VHSH needles not lasting as long as others.

If you've now fully established what is your correct needles clip position, could you not assemble with a tiny amount of silicone sealant on the clip and a short length lower? Providing the application is sparing then it could effectively rubber mount and secure the needle in position, limiting flutter and wear rate.
