I'm laughing as I'm in the same scenario re: the 150cc Jap reed converted motor that I put together a couple of months back. I then found that the intended frame needed work, which has very much put this on the back burner.

Funnily enough, it's the first time that I've used a 48 rear sprocket too, which I picked up from a pal.

Cheers for now.

Adam

PS - The reed 150cc is a change for me as I tend to always go bigger but just fancied using up some of my parts that were lying about. Like the V*spa T5, it occurred to me that size doesn't always matter.... does it?

Sorry to go off topic a bit but have you posted any info on you jap reed 150 anywhere Adam ?

No, nothing yet as I want to test it first. The proof of the pudding... etc.

I have documented the build so can share it in the future but want to put the theory to the test... before spouting off (lol).

Thanks but thats not very 2025 is it - I think the modern way is you draw something , make some, sell loads and we can all see if it works after ?

But seriously - watching with interest

Hello,
You’re going to wonder where this character has emerged from, I’ve only just returned to scootering after many and become a member of LCGB.
What did happen to this engine???
Just bought a TV175, few bits that need attention but nothing major. However, the only thing that is bothering me is that I obviously took my eye off the ball when buying, looking closer I think there has been an engine change, and an older engine, possibly a series 2..
I now have this thing in my head that I need to bring it back and find an engine series 3 closer to the chassis number, is this really necessary.
Am I being silly and worrying unnecessarily, it runs like a dream, I really hope I am.

It’s still on the bench. I’m in no rush.

Finally, I shall be putting this 185 engine in my SX150, replacing the Casa 192 that is in there at present. Unfortunately, I cannot find the Mikuni TM24 I was planning to use so, for now, I’m going to use the PHBL25 I had been using on the Casa.

I’m going to try the bgm Clubman, the enlarged MB airbox and metal mesh filter, and a SIP Vape static at 17 degrees.

The jetting I had on the Casa won’t work on this set up.

I’m thinking of starting with the following:

Pilot 48
Slide 45
Atomiser AQ266
Needle d22 2nd clip
Main 98

I know I have a d26 and a 40 slide I could try and I hope I have an AQ264 too.

If anyone has any thoughts on the jetting for an untuned 185 breathing through this air box and exhaust, feel free to share :)

I have the engine in the frame and have swapped over the Vape ignition from the old engine. Unfortunately, I can’t find my trusty old CamLam timing disc so I am awaiting another to arrive later today. In the meantime, I think I need to lap the flywheel with the crank judging by the rust evident in the flywheel keyway

I didn’t fully torque up the flywheel before strobing the timing. That resulted in the woodruff key shearing off. The first time this has ever happened to me.

Anyway, now I have a functional clutch, I have trundled around the estate a few times and the carb settings seem ok. On the stand too, the engine revs up and down easily. But, I do need to run this barrel in so need to do a few plug chops too.
