Im trying out the MB clutch springs, which are quite a bit longer than the camlam ones in my 6 plate clutch.Im trying them to see if the set up will be easier to use, the camlam race springs are very strong.Am I right in thinking the extra length gives them more expanded strengh, but easier to pull in,and do they still need 1 to 2 mm clearance between the plates?

It depends on the spring constant. So it's hard to say which will be stiffer without knowing that. However if you had 2 springs with the same constant but different lengths, then the longer one would apply more force to the clutch plates as it had been compressed more.
Springs are rated in force per unit distance so obviously one that had been compressed by a greater distance applies more force and will therefore be harder to release.
The mb ones are probably longer because they've never been compressed.
Hope that helps you understand but it doesn't directly answer your question.

probably find that the other springs are a little springbound, and thats what the difference in length is...

From my experience, MB clutch springs are slightly longer than the surflex standard ones. I have always found they work very well. Don't assume, however, that they will last for years and years.
