if you want a Ron Moss piston I would hurry up :) they're going fast.

Ive ran and run the Ron Moss type piston also the cheaper Beedspeed one but changed the rings on it for the Riken ones, both have been fine

If your having it lined, wouldn't you be better using a Jap type piston as opposed to the graded type pistons such as the Asso. Do the a,b,c and d grades go out as far as a rebore piston if it was needed?Having said that, the latest Asso RB/TS1 piston is really good then there is Harry Barlow[Pro Porting] who does his Pro piston which used 1mm top quality rings. cheers ,Speedy

why don't you ask the guy who's doing the reline?

as Speedy says the true benefit of a steel liner is the fact that you now have the option of simply reboring and going again, on and on so to speak, so building your set-up around a piston choice with plenty of oversizes would make sense in the long run?
It also allows you to alter the porting layout a little, so pistons with rings that previously may have dropped in and out of the boost port for example can now be considered too, simply by moving the boost port over a touch.

But all of the above is only worth doing if you choose a quality piston with quality rings, otherwise whats the point? The recent batch of new TS pistons from Asso, Ron, Harry, MB etc have somewhat lessened the need for Jap piston conversions BUT if its good enough for the big Jap 4 then its good enough for a Lammy IMHO.
Choose the best you can afford.

The Wossner pistons from af are decent and for a wossner they aint that expensive.

And they come in .25 increments, Jap pistons are a great alternative, however many of them require an 18mm small end so may need a rod change, not to mention a the head re-profiling, Oh and welcome to the minefield and many hours of searching piston/rod specs. ;)

and don't forget to order an extra set of rings, gap them, and keep them as spares in your toolbox ;)

Is it still possible / viable of safe to have brass bushes in the piston to make rod choice simpler? cheers,Speedy.

I recall that Harry Barlow had sourced some 116mm rods with an 18mm small-end. He considered them the holy grail of Lambretta con-rod (no, they weren't, Ape rods)

You could but they can be problematic, tend to wear or break.

I always used to favour MB forged but had a few problems with ring pegs disappearing and the bottom ring gumming up. Having said that the last one has been great. However, my last build has the standard TS1/RB 1mm ring piston supplied by AF as recommended by a well known sprinter tuner.

yep, Yamamoto parts if I recall.
Ape rods are 110 x 18 mm, and you have to grind your own lubricating slot into the big end eye. Worth the trouble thou as these are quality rods.
Might be worth starting a new thread Martin, listing and asking for part numbers for all Jap conversion parts such as pistons, rods etc, to add to the sum of knowledge like ;)
