I know the first batch was supposed to be a bit wanky and prone to problems but has anyone ran one of these without anything major going wrong? they do/did seem to get a bad press

I use one in a reed valve iron barrel....no issues so far..look a good piston to me...much like the Honda 205 design but with a std dome...I do add a few lube holes into the gudgeon pin area also

Interesting, do you get any piston slap with it? and what sort of mileage have you done on it? cheers Paul

I don't experience any piston slap...although it hasn't done big milage...its a motor I've done on a minimum of budget as a bit of fun with my leftover parts...but its turned out really nice motor up to now.....I have read bad press on these pistons....but at the price I thought it must be worth a try...I kind of read between the lines where and the reason the bad press came from

The story I heard was that the taper of the SR pistons was wrong - pistons are usually slightly tapered such that they are slightly wider at the bottom than at the top, to allow for the greater expansion nearer the piston crown once the motor has warmed up. Apparently, these pistons were either parallel-sided, or were narrower at the bottom. I'm sure I read the story where someone bought a first oversize piston, and re-profiled the sides to get it to fit a standard 64mm bore barrel. Sounds like a lot of effort to me.....
