Iron Vs. Rapido

Over the winter looking to re-build the top end, at present run a 225 Rapido with a MB billet head & 30mm delly +48 mm clubman ,its been a good set up,but fancy a change.Basically the lads I ride with run Mugello 186's & RT195's & the difference in the amount of fuel I put in compared to them is beginning to p*ss me off a bit  So here's my plan, not after balls out speed, mainly run at 50-55mph on A roads when we go away, with the odd bit of motorway ,this is something I've been thinking of doing the last couple of years to be honest, just looking for a bit of feedback really.
*******************************************************************
I have a Indian iron 200 barrel on its original bore, but will need a rebore to the next size.So I'm thinking rebore, light tune/clean up of the barrel, wosner piston, recently bought (second hand ) delly 26 & exhaust will either be - RS 42mm reverse cone - 48 mm clubman or if scootopia bring out there clubman, one of those. With a GT head head (one of Rich Taylors). Spoke to AF Rayspeed with the rebore/piston & mild tune that comes in a about £172 (plus he was going to check my crank as well) I know it would be cheaper with a Asso piston. Then add on the GT porcupine head.
********************************************************************
The above isn't that far off the price of a new 200 classic rapido
********************************************************************
So far the only things I am certain of are 1) the porcupine head 2) changing to a 200 barrel.Any thoughts or feedback welcome, looking to drop the engine next month for its annual winter overhaul, and really just after a reliable mile muncher.

How about all of the above but fit one of Scootopias new 22mm carbs for really good fuel economy. This is the way I'm going.

If its only a fuel saving exercise, i would keep your tried and tested(and run in) rapido setup and buy an LTH aftermarket reed valve. You will need to lop off a couple of the rapido's aluminium fins to allow it to fit nicely on your barrel, and after a brief upjetting session, you will cure the rapidos terrible 'spit back' all down the inside of your panels/footboards, and you will find your Fuel Consumption drastically reduced,by as much as 25%.It wont take long to repay your initial investment in the purchase of the reed valve, with only a minimal, if any, loss of performance. Not many bolt on additions actually pay for themselves, but you will find that this one does.

My rapido 225 (Classic tune) with 26 mm delorto and 48 mm clubman did exactly 70 miles to 5 litres and my muggy 186 with 26 mm delorto and clubman will only return 60 miles to 5 litres.....

The rapido goes well with a 26 carb in my experience

Exactly.....

From experience of riding with mates with smaller capacity engines, ie slower scooters, I have returned better fuel consumption than them and can only think that it's because I was not getting on to the main jet quite as much as them,

Thank you chaps some food for thought, appreciate your help.Think I'll stick with the rapido & work with what I've got, 26mm delly and possibly the reed valve, thanks again

Stuck a reed valve on my Muggy 225 with PHBH26 but struggled to get it jetted right so put a Mikuni TMX 27 and now runs much better and doing around 55mpg, which apart from an SX200 with 20mm carb was far better that the others in our group over the 500 miles to 4 Nations rally. Plus ADS3 and 4.7 gearing pulls like a train now.

Would a reed valve work effectively without changing the crank or altering the piston ?

I used a TS1 piston in my Mugello. Didn't have to do anything to the crank though.

You don't have to cut the window but it will help ben at af rayspeed is the man to talk to am just about to do a rapido 225 with the lth reedblock he said you can run it without or just cut the bottom of the piston or you can go with the window and a boost port in the barrel it's down to you
