Hi Gurus
I’m looking for a Cassette Clutch for my Quattrini 210 that is about to take shape. I really don’t want to run to an RLC Power-master at £600+. So looking at AFR 6 plate @ £275 or the Readspeed 6 plate @ £350. Factor in the ExBoxST, chain shocker there goes another Grand!!! Thanks all in advance
I think this engine is costing me more than a small car!!At least I could ride it AND be warm in the winter!

It isn’t a cassette though, if this makes any difference.

Worth remembering that your clutch choice is heavily dependent on your gearbox. What gearbox are you using?

Been using a LTH clutch from Oiltek in the sidecar scooter since 2014 with no problems.

I've being using a reedspeed red 5 x plate in my TS1 245 for yrs with a 5 x speed box, no slippage

I use an older AF cassette clutch in my Quattrini with AF 5 speed which handles the power just fine

The red five plate is great value for money with a set of good quality springs they will do most peoples normal road riding,,,,,,,,,,and if you are a lunatic then stretch to the AF 6 plate i have used one for years another good clutch............and if all your organs are in good nick you,ll get enough money for a LTH (my organs are done so the LTH is what dreams are made off )

Isn’t there anymore news on the AF 8 plate clutch
delayed since lockdown or has it been shelved?

Think the 8 plate was shelved but working on a 6/7 variant

Thanks for the replies chaps - I Was hoping to use a long legged 4 speed gearbox - as opposed to a 5 speed. Is this a bit shortsighted? The budget is running wild!

Also.....With arthritis knocking on my door I would prefer to only use ONE hand to operate the clutch!

I think that depends on your motor and especially your pipe.

I have an RT230 Reed with Ron moss ex box. This has an AF 4 speed close ratio box and 20/47 sprockets; I'm very happy with it.

A 5 speed box really comes into its own with a narrow power band.

Don't get me wrong, the 5 speed box will add flexibility to any motor, I just mean that there are varying benefits, depending on what else is in the mix.

the Reedspeed 5 x plate is an easy clutch to use bud, providing all componants are free in the basket, quality cables, you could even use the AF's / Chiselspeed clutch assists

I fitted one of those pulley system clutch assist things to a pals Lambretta other day. It is 50% lighter BUT and its a BIG BUT, you loose 50% of the cable pull, consequently 50% of the lift and then the adjustment has to be 50% more accurate. On the packet it said 15 minutes to fit but I fannied about adjusting it and test riding it to get the happy medium for about 2 hours.

I had to set it so when it was cold and you were kicking it it only just didn't slip, then when it was warm it was fine and didn't slip when riding. It was still a bit draggy and would crawl if you were stopped with it in first for any length of time. After 1 minute in gear with clutch pulled in you'd be off up the road wether you wanted to or not. That said if you know how to ride, have plenty of clearance on your clutch, don't sit in gear at lights for more than 10 seconds and can adjust a clutch cable they'll be fine. You will be adjusting it twice as often!

Fitted 2 of the above pulleys, as stated they do reduce effort of the lever but absolutely nightmare when driving if not set up bang on, when the scoot gets hot they drag like mad, off & in the bin now

With Li /SX setups, it's important to inspect the cam that pushes the clutch thimble. If this is worn on the cam face it will result in a crappy clutch.

Mine both on gp’s, mate at the local scooter shop fitted loads but removed most again

I kind of agree and at £40 quid its quite expensive bin fodder, but as they say the customer is aways right. I bought a few pulleys on eBay and am going to fit a couple and see if I can get them to work on mine, if you can get them to function good I can see the benefit. The pulleys were about 4 quid each delivered and the rest I can fabricate pennies.

I tried one of mine for 3 months but was constantly adjusting, to the point I would have to set up to start from cold & have spanner’s in my pocket to adjust again when warm

I am expecting my mate to want his taking off, he had the AA recovery other week as his clutch was dragging, I gave him a lesson in cutch adjustment since but not sure it fully sank in.
