Honing Tool

Postby NorthernJordan » Thu Oct 09, 2014 6:26 pm

Does anyone have any experience in using a honing tool? Will I need a bench drill? Or can I just use a hand drill?

Cheers

I have a three legged glaze buster that you put varying grades of stones on the legs

it attaches to a drill - when I have use it I just use a cordless

if it one of these use it cautiously and just give it a few runs up and down to rough the surface

use it on a very slow speed, and I mean slow.Move it up and down the bore as you go.I also run it in reverse, and use a thin oil,2 stroke is fine.

Glaze busters are ok but are not a proper hone, as already stated run it at a slow but constant/consistent speed, be careful cos they can oval the bore, I use hydraulic fluid to lube the bore. Or you could get one of these to do the job proper? http://usatoolsinc.com/ProductImages/lisle/LIS15000.jpg

I haven't bought one, but was wondering what was needed to do a decent job?

The flexi hones are fine to use with just a cordless without perfectly aligning the barrel?

At my work we have bench drill, milling machine and laithe. Are these of any use?
