Have you tried using it as it is? If so, what are the results?

only starts on choke even when warm.
Also have to rev the tits off to get it going but once going seems fine.
Also seems to cut out or die at low revs

If there are no mechanical issues with the motor and no air leaks anywhere (incl. exhaust nuts where it meets the cylinder) then the normal cause of not ticking over and needing choke to start is a blocked pilot jet, hence it needing to find more fuel from somewhere to run (choke system). To rule this out, remove the choke jet and poke a small piece of fine bristle or single strand of fine wire through the jet to ensure it is clear ( people warn against doing this but that is to avoid damage by being too heavy handed, so be gentle if you use wire).
You also need to ensure that your choke cable is not adjusted too tight and staying on, the carb top is tight and that the Rickover adjustment (mixture screw and air/slide screw) is set correctly.
If cleaning the pilot jet through and general adjustment doesn't cure this then we would need to think a little deeper into the motor.

Adam, did you mean to say " push wire through pilot jet"?
Also try looking through magnifying glass with jet pointed at sky.

Yep, sure did! I note that I actually said both, making it even more confusing
Yep, cleaning through the pilot jet is the way forward.

The pilot is about right J would have thought, try stripping the carb and blowing through all the jets and drillings with carb cleaner to make sure there are no obstructions.

I run that kit but with a 26mm Dellorto and an Ancillotti,
Choke 70
Pilot 53
x7 2nd clip down
266 atomiser
115 main jet
Seems fine on this set up so far
