Carb Flooding

Postby Yorks Lamby » Tue Oct 13, 2026 7:56 pm

Of recent years i've lost count of how many times my carb has flooded (standard Dellorto SH), gave up on the original Dellorto floats i had & recent years been using (supposedly) ethanol resistant Scootopia ones, however i may get a few thousand mile then the's petrol pissing out of the carb, this as a rule happens when i fill up & yes the fuel is turned off when filling & it doesn't matter if the tanks nearly empty or half full, i even bought myself a 'toolbox size' hammer to use against my 'toolbox strip of wood' to tap the carb off because it happens that often.

Just done exactly 492 mile & had to change again.....does anyone know of anyone selling floats that actually work with the crap fuel we have now & yes i use E5.

Thanks

Are the floats filling with petrol, or are there witness marks on the walls to indicate that they are catching on the float bowl?

Have you got the correct float needle that seals when the float rises?

Have you tried testing whether your float needle does seal? By this I mean - take off the float bowl. Place your index finger under the float just enough to mimic the float floating on the fuel. Then turn on the petrol and see what happens.

When it first happened some years back by changing the float cured it (original Dellorto float), happened a few times so went with Scootopia floats.Yes let petrol run through with bowl off & pushed float up & flow stops so not needle definately float, assuming it swells up & catches, checked to see if float has petrol in it, shaking it & torch through it, no petrol in it. Each time i change the float it's fine, originally it was not when i filled up it flooded but since then it happens after filling up at different petrol stations. Likely contact Scootopia to see if anyone else has said owt.

Didn't think about that one, will see if i've any more float bowls & measure internally just to see if anymore clearance but had this float bowl on pretty much since i got the scooter with originally no issues, if all else fails will try what you suggest as it's become annoying now & my tolerance was not good when i was younger...a lot worse now :D
