Historic status

My scooter is registered 1/1/86. When can I apply for historic status

You can apply for Historic Status on 1st April 2027.

As I understand it.......It goes on the build date not the registration date.
So any vehicle registered in the first week of January was likely built in the December, or earlier, in the previous year.
https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles confirms this. So, your steed's class can be changed to "Historic" as of 01/04/2026

That's incorrect, when I authenticate, in this case for example 1986, the DVLA will give it a manufacturing date as 1st January of that year regardless of what month it was manufactured in.

Earlier, when the registrations changed at the end of July, i could date something as 1970 and it would get an H reg', despite the letter changing to J from August 1st. Only if you know the exact month build and put it on the Dating Letter, would it be given a J reg'.

Similarly when I date a later scooter and give the year of manufacture only, it will always have date of manufacture as 1st of January of that year.

My information given to the OP is correct an is ok for Historic status on 1st April 2027.

Thanks for the reply unfortunately I believe rich oswald is correct but there is contradiction on the government website I’ve seen the 8 day bit as well
