Lammy No. 2 - Li Special

Evening all, I've been meaning to post some of these up for a while, but life has taken over!

Anyway, I had my first Lammy about 15 years ago having dreamt about owning one since being 10 years old, but sadly some scum bag decided it was ok to take it and left me, a 19 year old student, with no way of getting another....you guessed it, no insurance. What a dick!
So it took me 12 years to buy another and got this from Italy, then child came along and so it sat untouched until now!
Engine was rebuilt a while back with a Mugello 198, but there are still decisions to be made on carb and exhaust, paint is expected back in a day or two.

Will do, but perhaps one of you better informed peeps can suggest a carb and exhaust? I defo want a Gori exhaust and thinking about RLC's version of the GP 50, but can be persuaded otherwise, but it'll take some doing. They're lovely looking things!
I sopke to Dean and am waiting on some possible options for carb etc......he has a part to play in the paint selection too, but he doesn't know anything about that, I basically stole his idea!

I suppose that all depends on what you want to do with the engine.

It's going to be a daily use bike, mainly local use, but am hoping to get into the scene much more when time allows, so some touring too.....I guess what I'm saying is that I want a pretty nippy bike in terms of acceleration, but it'll need to be happy sitting at 60+ when on long runs, but happy to swap to a different exhaust for that, so mainly needs to be quick about town.
Probably picked the wrong cylinder kit haven't I?!

It should do 60 but that will be at the limit of it's speed tbh, maybe 65mph flat out on a good day but it will depend on the load being carried, head wind, gradient.

Welcome back to the world of Lambretta 8-)

Glad to hear this is going to be ridden!
I would put on a 26 dellorto with the Gori, good pull and torque with a box pipe.
Bigger carbs in my opinion need expansion pipes.
Also you will get reasonable economy, which I like as goes longer between fill ups on small petrol tank.
This is my opinion but it will pull 65-70 and cruise at 55-60 depending on gearing of course, which is another big thing to remember especially when using high rev pipes.
Enjoy!

I'm not sure the Gori GP50 will be a good match for your kit unless you've had it tuned. The GP50 is suited to higher port timings around 190 exhaust and high 120s for transfers. Gori race might be a better bet for you.

This is where I wish I'd got on here before making my ill thought out purchases, but the Gori exhaust is a thing of beauty and I was smitten, so I'm afraid it's the Gori GP50 or nothing at the mo!

CambTim, which are you happy about, the exhaust alone or this combo?

dickie, if it turns out that my cylinder needs some tuning doen to suit, then I'm happy to get this done.....I'll live with my choices! :D

Looking great.I have just built a 198,hope it lives up to my expectations.
One thing I have noticed on your engine, and its a problem I had,so its not a criticism, you inlet manifold looks awfully long.I had to get a really short one so as I could get the side cover on with the air filter on the carb.Even then I had to have the filter turned 90 degrees to the rear.Dont think that will cause a problem.
