did a rough dry build on this yesterday

It was in the Fine Young Cannibals' "Good Thing" video
it is being redone as close as possible to the original build
shame all we have to go on is the black & white footage...
would love to see a colour photo of this from back then...

Good project mate.. I remember the video well.. It was played repeatedly in the Long Bar @ the Gt Yarmouth National rally 1989...
I know the video was in black and white, but I would say the scooter was all white, frame forks hubs rims cowlings the lot...
if not white, certainly a very light colour...

excellent project, good luck - nice to have a bit of history involved.

Hope it goes well. I'm planning on doing a chop next year, obvs I'll be looking for a frame that one of my mates took a hacksaw too, and not a complete one.

it was almost completely "white", which, I'm told by a former owner that saw this on facebook, is actually a pearl white, with red flip flop over. Got to get one of those headlamps for it!

I know I have a couple of pics of this scooter that I took at a custom Show in Bogor Regis/Worthing way at the back end of the 80's. Ill dig them out and scan them on here if their of any use to you.

dry build done, that headlamp looks the part.
strip it down tomorrow, ready to go off to paint


the header pipe was a bit tricky to mock up, having no starting point on the pipe location, other than that black & white still captured from the video, but it's there now, tacked in place, needs welding around properly. so far, so good...

Quality. Spirit of the 80s alive and well.

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses; do the throttle, gear change and clutch cables all run through the frame? If so, how do you run them though initially?

I dont usually like cut-downs / skellys, (waste of good italian engineering and all that), but there something about this scoot I really like.

with some difficulty I imagine... there are already holes and entry pipes welded to the frame. I have threaded some cables through, just not all of them at the same time... but only wanted to do that job once.

It's gone off to paint today. I have sourced a switch, and got main /dip functionality on that headlamp, so waiting for parts on this one just now...

The best way I've found to thread cables through the frame is to get some MIG welding wire, bend over one end into a hook and thread it through the frame (go from the engine up to the steering coloum) When the hooked end of the wire is at the steering colum get another piece of MIG wire with a hook bent on to it and pull the wire through the hole.

When the wire is running through the frame run the cable outer through the wire and hey presto your cable is threaded through the frame.

cheers for the tip, there is some wire through some of the holes, hopefully the painter will leave it there...

it's painted...


and engine is built; rearsets, brake etc sorted

I did use a vespa brakelight switch there, but that's better than an in-line one, or one of those universal spring affairs.

just got to put it all back together now...

Love this and love the vid to Good Thing. A big inspiration on me and my Lammy build.
