1971 GP125

Thought you might like to see my 1971 GP125. It's got a quite interesting history. Bought from Eddy Grimstead in 1971, used until 1974 and then stuck in the back of a dry garage until 1999. It was then cosmetically restored by a scooter dealer who used it as a display piece for another 12 years.

I bought it in 2011 and it had just 8000 miles on the clock. Since then I have (slowly) been sorting it out mechanically whilst trying to keep it looking fairly standard. It now has:

Casa 185 kit
Polini CP23 carb
BGM crank
MB Clubman exhaust
Electronic ignition with Chiselspeed M-Tech advance/retard
AF tubeless alloy wheels
19/46 gearing
Pro Tec shock

It now produces a heady 10.64bhp with a stump pulling 11.59ft/lbs of torque!

Apart from the above, the scooter is almost all as Innocenti made it. The nice thing is that the paint (being 15 years old) has a bit of patina and doesn't look freshly sprayed which suits the look perfectly.

That's a lovely looking scooter - however some bugger has undone your HT, and pinched your spark plug!! :o

Just paranoid about checking mixture - the plug spends more time out than in!

Thanks for the comments. It wasn't exactly a tough job, but I'm pretty pleased with the way it's worked out. When I got it, it looked nice but was struggling to get to 50. Now it runs great at 55-65 which is just right for the roads round here.

How do you find the polini cp23 carb ? My brother had one on a siver special with 175 top end and he removed it because he could only get about 25 to 30 mpg from it.

I haven't had chance to check out the fuel consumption properly as yet. From memory I think it did about 50 miles on 2/3rds of a tank so that's about 45mpg.
Starts and runs pretty well though and the carb really is tiny so you'd never know it was different unless you really looked.
I wanted to keep the airbox so it limited my choices.

I'll do a proper check soon and post the result.

Thanks and I hope your rebuild goes well. As I said, I only had to finish this one off so it was pretty easy but I am currently eyeing up a Series 2 for restoration so may well be up to my neck in bits soon!
