Foam is a funny material. I've often found it turns to dust with age and occasionally you get the sticky melt down!
Looking good and wish I had such a good supplier so close.

Living in Weston, and always having had Coxy, Bob wright and Scootopia in town, I have been spoilt.
I would do my nut if I had to wait 2 days to receive something through the post, when I want it, I want it NOW

Well, put the clean carb back together today, refitted tonight and filled with fuel from a syringe,
Guess what?????????????

Image

It runs :D
All lights work, stop light and the horn is sweet.
Also flushed the fuel tank and clared the tap today, so I will fit them later.
I will run as is, I have been lucky with oil seals on original scooters quite a lot, so I will run this and keep an eye on it.

Sorry to drag this resurection out.

Brilliant ....Great news .....just check the crankcase for any oil leaks ....very common underneath ....Danny knows where to find this as well ....He did mine for me ...also check the front wheel that it sits straight in the forks especially under braking ....well done very quickly sorted ..

Chers Andy,
I looked at the case for leaks and cracks when I had the sidecase off, all looks good.
Front wheel has a slight tilt to it, but Danny was jumping up and down on it earlier and it pushes up true.
Cheeky git he is, he only came down for an MOT

Bit of a delay since last update,
Week ago Friday I had it in the MOT station,
Although I know the tyres and tubes will need changing before it goes on the road properly, I thought I would MOT it and get it road legal.

The rolling road was broken on the day, so I had to use the decelerometer, which involves gaining a speed of 20mph and braking hard with both controls seperately:

Image

Once MOT'd I removed the seat again and sent to powdercoaters, and then poked the bit of rust on the tank harder, and it made a hole :(
So that is with my mate from the Trogs being repaired as well, some paint damage will be unavoidable sadly.

Should get the seat (and my sons first scooter) back from the powdercoaters tomorrow, so will update as soon as I can.

Sadly after a flurry of activity, not a lot has happened in the last 2 weeks :(

I had the missing knobbly bit from my seat replaced before having it powder coated:

Image

Just waiting for my chap to glue the cover on now.

Steve (Trogs) has welded my tank for me, and kept paint damage to a minimum :)

Image

Black stripe was put on previous owner, mostly to hide the nasty silver foil repair that was done years ago.
I gave up on finding a fuel tap in the UK, so managed to get one from Rimini for £8, post was £12 though , so I bought a spare tap as well, made the post seem more bearable

I will get some miles on it as soon as I can.
Got busy with my Serveta the last week or two.

Oh, and Wayne, I was joking in the last post ;)
If u need my number just PM me mate.

If my seat glueing guy gets his bit of the job done,
I will be able to do some more on it :|

I could ride it without a seat, but that tank looks like a cheek splitter

Yay, on the road at long last :D
Seat back and fitted, well happy with that, insured it with FJ just admin fee and then taxed at local post office.
Not the very local one, miserable cow wouldn't do the historic tax change :x

Anyway, out today to the local supermarket for a full tank of fuel and a loaf of bread (uncut white for my soup):

Image

And then after the soup I went to Scootopia for some new stand feet, and to give Danny the chance to thrash it around the block
On the way back I stopped for another picture:

Mainly just so I can stop and start it, as it amazes me that I haven't even cleaned and adjusted the points after a 33 year sleep and it is so reliable :D

A very enjoyable first ride out 8-)

Great find and the best colour. 8-) Fine as it is but an absolutely perfect basis for a full restoration. Still looks an up to date design.
All credit to you for getting it all up and running so quickly.

Cheers guys :)
Had a slight hiccup over the weekend though, revs decided to hold themselves high between gearchanges and on tickover.
When in Scootopia on saturday and chatting to Dan he reckned the mag seal was giving up.
Turns out these Vega's only have an outer and after 33 years stood, was most likely rock solid.
So when the boss wasn't looking at work today I popped it on the ramp for a look:

Image

As he said, it popped out with no effort at all, so I nipped down there and bought a new one.
And although the seal can be changed externally I also popped the mag flange out to grease the bearing.

Image

Managed to get it all back together and on the ride home tonight all was good in the rev area :D

I have covered nearly 100 miles this weekend and today, so should be ready for the trip to Bristol for the BLC meet on Sunday 8-)
