Hi,
There is a top-speed dyno challenge at Mersea this year, with trophies for the best speeds achieved. The cost of a run is just £7.
For the first time, there will be a short ride-out available on the Saturday morning. It is 40 miles, or about an hour, so you will be back in good time for the custom show and afternoon games. Assemble by the gate at 10 and depart at 10:30, or start later in the day and follow the route published in the programme.
Talking of the afternoon games, these will be different this year, not least because we are unable get insurance for moving motorised vehicles. Therefore, the famous beer and bananas race will feature over-sized tandem kiddy's push-along scooters as supplied by our sponsor, Jahspeed Scooters. It should be a laugh.
The LCGB stall with be there with all the stock you would ever wish to buy, with signing-on available for BSM.
I hope to see lots of you there. Martin

Oh, and don't forget that the entry ticket is cheaper if you buy in advance, even if you are arriving by scooter.

Q: Can I come to the rally as a day visitor?
A: Yes, price to be advised on the gate.
Go on, let us in on it then otherwise I won't be going!

Excuse me for not knowing the full answer to this, but if you arrive by scooter on the Saturday, you pay the full on-the-day entry price (£25) but if you leave before 6pm, you get a sizeable refund upon surrender of your wristband.
If you get there early, you can do the ride out, see the games, visit the traders, watch the dyno, see the afternoon bands and meet loads of friends, all before Cinderella-time at 6pm.
Please check all this upon entry though .....

All that may be jolly good VFM (no pun intended) but it just seems to me a little odd that there does not appear to be a published price for day tickets, and, so I am told, in some instances size can make a difference!

To be honest £25 for a days entertainment now is cheap. This is a club rally and must be very expensive to set up. The club officials take a big risk every year because if it's pissing down they'll barely break even. I'll be day tripping because I hate camping; any refund I get on leaving will be welcome but will not affect my decision to go

I fully appreciate the cost and effort involved in putting on an event such as this which, as I have said, is probably jolly good value for money and I have supported this event before.
My point is simply that the cost of admission for day visitors is not published and the promotional material I have seen says it will be advised on the gate and even Knowledge does not have the figure, which may be off putting for some.

I can guess at several reasons why it's not published yet but that is up to the club. If £25 is putting them of then it's their loss

This was posted on the Mersea Island Scooter Rally Facebook page on 19th July (a quick Google search brought this up), so hopefully that clears this up;
We are offering Mersea Saturday day passes again this year for £10. To warrant a £10 day pass you need to;
1. Arrive after 8am on Saturday.
2. Pay £25 entry fee.
3. Leave before 6pm, return your wristband to the gate staff and you will receive a £15 refund.
Please note; if coming by car you will also need to purchase an advance £25 car parking ticket, there is no refund or discount available on car parking.......best to come by Scoot

Ah, I looked at the info on the Mersea link posted above by Knowledge.
Don't do SM (or S & M) apart from here!

£10 for a day's entertainment. A bargain. Don't forget the scooter custom show too.
If you would like to enter your scooter in The Mersea Island Custom Show please ensure you register in the marquee between 09:30 and 11:30 on Saturday morning. There is no need to pre-book. Entry forms are available from Friday midday at our club stall on the main trader area. If you want to attend the ride out and the custom show, please register at the marquee between 09:30-10:00 on Saturday to reserve your spot with custom-show manager Martin Meuser. He will hold your space until you return from the ride-out.
You can obtain Martin's contact number from the DVLC club stall (where the T shirts are sold), as I don't want to post it on here or he will end up with lots of special banking opportunities from Nigerian princes.
Enjoy.

Thanks to all those who attended the rally.
It was good to see Toot and Glenda on the LCGB stall, and taking a good number of brand new memberships.
Scotty and Barry Braithwaite were ensconced in the BSSO trailer, sharing stories about racing, and there were plenty of familiar faces from the Flying 8 Balls and LCGB faces from further afield.
I hope you enjoyed it.

23 memberships taken at Mersea Island in 2016, (9 brand new), the most ever. The stall was quite busy at times so apologies if I didn't get to speak with/say hello to everyone that visited on Friday and Saturday.
Already looking forward to supporting Mersea Island rally again next year. Thanks to Colchester DLVC for their usual hospitality they provide the LCGB Club Shop, but maybe next year you don't need such a big tent for the VCB.....

I had a good time although I only arrived mid afternoon on the Saturday by which time most of the trade stalls had packed and gone (unless there were fewer there this year?) but still managed to buy some ST90 at a good price?
I would have come earlier but this was my sons first ride out on his scooter and he needed chaperoning as he had only covered 5 miles on it up to that point and he had work in the morning. I carried his mrs on the back of mine and they had a great time but what happened to the music in the evening? the first band was great but the next act was karaoke
Anyway they seemed to enjoy it and I'm sure they will be back but I'll let them pay for themselves next time, £25 sounds great unless you times it by 3

Thanks for the feedback Col.
There were more traders than ever before, so that wasn't the issue Col. Young Lloyd Watts got all the bargains, as usual.
The solo singer was Johnny Boy. He seemed to go down very well, despite the fact that he was singing to a backing track. We were due to have another band between the The Rhythm Rockets and Johnny Boy, but they made some lame excuses and only two members turned up. I won't name them here: they don't deserve the publicity.
Anyone attending the rally can get entry for £20 by buying the or ticket in advance.
Sorry I didn't see you, but I did see the Gulf scooter in the field on Sunday morning.
