Electrical (or electronic) components don’t really fare very well, mounted as they are in the case of the stator, subject to heat & vibration.

For my sins  I persevere with points ignition even on a tuned engine in my current ride, which let me down recently. It was running great, & then wouldn’t start after a brief thrash.

I suspected the condenser which it proved to be. So, if I was a betting man....

I doubt you’ll find cheaper, or better, than AF Rayspeed ;)

Assuming that there was no spark and the ignition is points, then I agree with WT1. Most likely the condenser, which can go short circuit when they are old and hot. My mate has a 650Z quacker which does the same thing.

When the condenser fails, you will most likely still get a spark! They rarely fail 'open circuit'. That fools any of us into believing it can't be the problem. They can be fine one minute & bad the next & those intermittent faults are the worst!

When my condenser went recently, there was still a spark with the plug out, & my Mate said it couldn't be ignition, but I've been 'there' too many times now.....

Yep second on that- had a old V100 sport smallframe which used to do the same
