Li 125 cutting out on low revs

Hi
After 47 years I have just bought myself another Lambretta scooter, its a Li 125 special 1964 model and although its been off the road for 2years is in very good condition. I have been doing a few repairs to get it ready for an Mot but it has developed a problem with cutting out at low revs/tick over.It will restart after a couple of kicks but will only remain running if you hold the revs up fairly high. The previous owner started it up once a month so I can't see that it would be stale fuel plus I have filled up the tank with fresh fuel.I think its down to the carburettor needing cleaning but wondered if anyone can confirm that I am looking in the right direction. It doesn't petter out it stop dead.Engine sounds really nice when running and I am itching to get it on the road.

Thanks in advance
Steve

try it with the air filter disconnected, check flow rate from tank, does choke operate correctly, give carb' a good clean (make a note of jets sizes, etc)

Hi Clubman Steve
Give the carb a good clean. You will probably find pilot jet blocked.
Good luck

Do all of the above (excellent) advice but it may be that the flywheel has lost some magnetism.

If the problem becomes worse when switching the lights on, that will be your problem.....

If I'm right, then, as problems go, it's not a bad one to sort out IMHO! :)

I would go with bad petrol and a blocked pilot jet. There are some good carb cleaners on the market. Typical symptoms. Good luck.

Thanks for all the advise I ran a carb cleaner through it earlier this afternoon and it is now running well and ticking over nicely.
Carb cleaner was a really good suggestion - thanks
