Even if you could afford this, is this ever worth the asking money...as long as someone pays it then I assume it is!

as someone in my early 50's, I can't help but think that as we start parking these up or using for local rides vs the big rallies..then the market is at risk of significant crash vs current prices..am I the only one thinking this?

Must admit i haven't been to a UK rally (living overseas now) for a couple of years so no idea if attendance is generally on the up or down?

It's about par for the course these days I think. The frame alone would go for stupid money. I would have fancied an SX200 at one time. Most people probably do when they get into Lambretta scooters. But the more you learn about them the less appeal all that razzmatazz seems to have.

But, in answer to your question I suppose it will happen and we hit that speculative wall when we're all to old and kids don't want to know. We might end up like vintage bikers, who knows. I think there are worse ways to go.

If you had the money and bought the one for sale on ebay,I guess with it being an SX 200,when finished you would want it to look as if it had just come out of the showroom,so with a perfect paint job and all the parts to make it look like new you would be looking at least at £10,000 and probably more.This would be completely prohibitive to all except the richest or stupidest,depending on how you look at it.

got to add an SX 200 kickstart as well so that's another £150 at least.

Seems a bit high to me considering its condition, it being a non-runner and the amount of broken and none original parts on it.

That outfit always asks for premium prices.

I'd be concerned as to why the main strut needed replacing.

well we all know only too well how many £thousands of pounds a restoration could cost on even a basic Li so it will never be worth the total cost .

if you really must have a SX200 at any cost and intend to keep it and you can afford it then there will be plenty of folk will buy it because the chances of another coming up for sale is very remote.

Its all about scarcity , market prices and the determination to own something that is rare , beautiful and most importantly beyond the pocket of 99% of other owners

It's already happening. I never ride with other scooters. Got nowt against scooterists, I just don't know any particularly well. I ride with a couple of mates on a BSA and a matchless. I've also entered into classic bike shows but never a scooter show.

I'll bet I'm not completely unique.

Agree. There is something majestic about an original white cellulose paint SX200 though.

Yep, a good scooter there, certainly not an original paint SX200 that is probably older than 1980 though

I can't imagine there's a generation of people coming along behind us that will create enough demand to keep prices high. These things will be seen as responsible for destroying the planet rather than desirable objects of transport!

When I first got into scootering in the 90s, the SX was all desirable. Then as someone said, as you find out more you realise it's an Li in different clothes, and I already have an Li. But it means a lot to some people. Good luck to them.

Better not let my wife see those prices or my two would be gone! She still thinks it's a cheap 'hobby' that keeps me out of trouble

Thats the first thing that crossed my mind, could possibly be an issue with the integrity of the frame tube if that strut had rotted out badly enough to warrant replacement..

Not necessarily Andy, those frame struts are renowned for snapping in normal use probably helped along their way by riding off the stand. My old TV 200 had a broken strut when I bought it back in 1970 and it was only 7 years old then and my LiS strut had already broken and been poorly re-welded when I got it in 2004.

It makes the one i've got for sale for £6,500 good value.
