Annoying metal clips on rear runners

Is there an easy way to fit those annoying metal clips onto the rear runners? I never seem to be able to get them pushed on far enough, especially on runners that have been removed and re-fitted.

Cut an inch wide strip (about 4 inches long) out of a plastic milk carton/bottle and use it as guide/slide to fit the clip over the top. Slide the clip + strip onto the frame leg, then pull the strip out.

If you mean the side panel buffers that fit on the frame leg, then Adams way of fitting them will work very well without scratching the paintwork.http://lambrettarestorations.blogspot.c ... ffers.html

I think he means the clips that fix the plastic strips to the runners. I'm sure someone once suggested using small nuts that would self-thread on the plastic spikes.

That's what I thought he meant - hence my confusion with Adam's tip which now makes sense after Paul's post. :)

I usually push those small speed clips that fit the rear runners into position and use a pair of pliers to push them completely home.

Haha! I least I've learnt something new. Regarding the other tips, I tried the socket option and had no luck. I've got a small pair of pliers though so I'll give that a go. Thanks for the replies.

I think ive prob broke more than ive fitted. I usually push down with a pair of pliars eitherside of the plastic pin but ive had loads that snap one side of the sprung clip off. Think il try the small socket idea next time.

We used these 'speed nuts' to hold the rear footboards on when entering events, standard classes that required full bodywork. Then all you had to do if you needed the footboard off quickly was a quick yank upwards and the clip fractured, saved messing around with sockets.

Although it hasn't been confirmed we believe it's the little rectangular clips that fix the plastic runners to the footboard that is the topic.... ;)

Nice trick,thanks for sharing ;)

A hammer,a socket extension and a 6mm socket for 1/4 inch rachet, are the needed tools for the job.
A 5mm socket might be better (6mm is my smaller socket)

Yes that's what we used, you can push them down the threads on the rear foot board clips instead of turning them down the threads hence speed nuts.
