Hoping someone can help. Everything original, bike running fine until I put lights on then splutters and back fires but as soon as I turn the lights off again bike runs fine again. Also no rear brake light whilst main lights on but brake light works when they're off.

Battery model but no battery fitted also running original regulator could one of these be the issue although as far as I can work out battery there only for parking lights?

Cheers

You shouldn't run your set-up without a battery.

Otherwise, the problem is a classical symptom of your flywheel needing re-magnetising.

Last time I had one done, it cost a fiver @ Grand Prix Scooters in Leicester, but there should be dealers that still offer this service. I have no idea as to whether Grand Prix exists now, as Phil was trying to sell the business...

Close up the spark plug gap and try it again.

As already stated, this is the classic symptom of a flywheel that needs to be remagnetized, however, the above 'close the plug gap' is the typical 'make do' fix. Getting the flywheel remagnetized is the thing to do but you might find that closing the gap is sufficient to see you through to the end of the rally season, then you can send the flywheel away (AF Rayspeed and others will do this for little money) over the winter.
