Was out the weekend and someone came up to me offering an SX200.
He said it was Italian but was a 1970 H regististration?

Could this me Italian or is it Spanish ?

I haven't had time to follow up yet. Need to check frame number.

Could be either ie:- Could be an Italian SX200 which has sat in the showrooms for a while before being sold and registered or yes it could be a Spanish Jet 200 (sometimes called SX200). Don't forget, in them days the registration mark indicated the date of registration and not manufacture.

I'm going to get into trouble for saying this, but I'm not sure Jet 200's were around at the time and were only reintroduced in the early 70's. It could possibly have been an early Jet with the SX200 panels that had been bought in. But I don't know how widespread that was. Otherwise I would think it's quite possible it might be Italian. Possibly among the last made and held over in a showroom somewhere.

I'll stick my neck out and say it's 99% likely to be Italian. As already said, a late registered one.

My 13 plate Motoguzzi Griso was purchased, as new, and first registered via Fowlers in Bristol in May 2013 - it's actually a 2010 model.

I was offered the choice between it and the 2011 model next to it - also new and unregistered.

Anyways, a simple check on the frame number will soon decide the nationality of the machine in question.

Late SX manufacture may be a grey area as to Country of build.

Did the Spanish build them from CKD form @ one time, having been sent everything to do so from Innocenti?

What may be of more genuine interest is the fact that the one in question may be a ‘run-out’ model with some combination of clip on panels, rectangular horncasting badge, plastic glove-box & clip-in fork buffers which should all contribute to the desirability/rarity IMHO.

I regret passing up the opportunity of a 1970 ‘H’ reg 200 in the 70’s that was lovely in it’s original White/ Polychromatic Blue because GP’s were what everybody sought...

I think it’s interesting that there are quirks coming to light about Lambretta manufacture & variations. The GP Electronic wiring looms, for instance.

My ’67 non-chrome ring SX200 came to me with normal, ‘non Jet’ forks as far as the ‘U’ bottom half, yet the stem length as per ‘Spanish’ 460 mm. It also came with the lower, TV type headset which all fitted well, so to speak. I thought it meant it had been ‘mongrelised’ but now I’m not so sure, simply because of the odd forks....

Maybe with modern registrations but with age related ones that's not so Digger. If I issue a dating letter, the DVLA will allocate a Reg' relating to the year I give it which is not necessarily the year it was first registered whichever country that may be in. As in the above case the SX200 may have been first reg' in 1970 but manufactured between 1966 and 1969.

Reason I ask is the bike was cheap for a resto and only done about 10 miles since rebuild then covered in the shed and left.?
Will call him tomorrow and will let you know. An old guy who don't want it anymore.

I called him and he claims Italian but will find out tomorrow when his wife finds the docs. He said it's a 70.
Let's see what happens.

Easiest thing is just ask what the frame and engine numbers are, Italian will say SX200 x 8..... Spanish will start with a 5 and engine numbers and frame numbers usually match

Arrived today only to find out the frame number had been removed but the IGM matches an sx200. The engines number is 8501** And the front disc is on the bike. Has the shield type horncast. Very average resto. Has a battery tray so probably a uk bike. I think?

If the frame number is gone there is nothing that can be done about it. You've got to wonder why. You certainly can't put a number on it.

What does it say about frame number on the docs ?

Looks like someone engraved a Gp frame number and that's on the doc.
Probably done years ago as the bike has not been used for 20 years looking at the tax disc.

That's disappointing for you ......but if the price is right as they say ...

4K so will leave unless I get it for a great reduction.
