trying to sort mates scoot and never messed with points before
tried easy start and no joy
have a spark at plug when out of engine
is easiest option to change condenser and points then check timing just thinking if i am going in might as well change stuff whilst in there
removed green from junction box to make sure it wasnt the cut out
anything else worth checking

Hi Terry
If you have a spark it would suggest your points are opening and closing.
1 does the plug get wet when fitted suggesting it's getting fuel if not remove plug pour a thimble full of fuel down plughole an see if fires for a few seconds.
2 have you tried different plug and reduced gap in case you have weak magnets
3 check points gap with feeler gauge
4check timing ,If you disconnect the green stator wire from machine and connect a meter on ohms between green and earth you I'll see a small deflection when points open.(analogue meter (with needle)is better than digital meter. Your woodruff key may have sheared.roughly check TDC with screwdriver down plug hole and see how it compares with marks on mag housing
From memory around 1or2 o'clock with 19 degrees at 12 o'clock
5 old fuel stored in plastic can?
Good luck

Points looms have a connected double green, one to the ignition switch/cut out button (model dependent) and one to the coil. If you take this out of the junction box then the coil gets no live ignition from the stator and the motor cannot fire/run.

there is another green going into the junction box what would that be for
will try taking the double out 1 at a time as they are not crimped at the moment as i found out when pulling them out

One green comes from the stator and goes into the junction box, where it connects via paired connectors, to the spliced (double) green (one to switch, one to coil). If you don't have the spliced green in the junction box then the power from the stator doesn't go anywhere.
Removing the loom's green at the CDI bypasses the switch on an electronic kit but not on a points ignition.
