There may be contradiction to this opinion (like ride it as if you stole it

) but the rules to which I’ve adhered on a road scooter are:
• Use the gears up & down so that you are varying the revs all the time. In other words, play tunes on your gearbox! For example, from fourth to third where the revs (& cooling) will increase but not the load
• Gradually increase the revs as mileage increases
• Don’t labour the engine (particularly as the cooling is relative to fan speed)
• Don’t be tempted to add more oil
• Don’t be tempted to roll off the throttle downhill or approaching a stop/junction etc
• Keep your left hand hovering over the clutch
• Let the engine run @ a higher tick-over after any run so that it can cool down, rather than switch off if it is hot
I hope this helps, but it is only my opinion & offered as a genuine response.
