I have a late Jet 200 with a GP 200 engine non battery model. The bike is running fine but I need to find which wire from the stator is the live to the headset where all the pick ups for lights, horn etc are picked up. The following wires come up into the headset from the frame, blue, green, purple, black & brown. I have 'Sticky's Bible' with all the diagrams. None of them have all my colours. The other problem is that I don't know which stator I have and I don't have the tools to look.
I am fine with my electrical tester but just need to know which colour is the feed. I don't want to test it whilst it is running in case I cause any damage. Once I have the correct wire I should be home and dry. Thanks.

It's usually the yellow wire from the stator which goes into the regulator, this then (usually) goes to the headset as a brown wire.

Thanks Mick. I am used to testing 12 volt bikes with batteries, cannot be a lot different. appreciate your time.

Firstly, you can't do any damage with your meter set to volts, put the negative lead on a good frame earth and use the red to look for the voltage. Secondly, if you trace the wires from the stator you will most likely have the following:
Green - Ignition to CDI (approx. 450 - 500 ohms)
Red - Ignition Trigger to CDI (approx. 95 - 115 ohms)
White - Earth to CDI (should be close to a dead short, o ohms)
Yellow - Lighting feed to the voltage regulator. (approx. .5 - 1 ohm)

It's possible for those colours to vary but you can check them by disconnecting and testing between the wire and earth using your meter set to ohms. The lighting feed goes to the voltage regulator and a wire from that will either go straight into the loom or to a junction box on the rear frame somewhere\

Presuming its electronic ignition then the green / white / red is pretty universal to the CDI.

If there's no battery a fourth wire (colours vary - but often yellow or yellow/black) will go to the regulator. Normally the feed from the reegulator will be bundled to all the wires that go up the loom except the green from the CDI I to the ignition / kill switch.

You should probably have power on the brown, black, purple and blue, but if the loom has been mucked about with or is non standard you'll need to get the meter out and do some diagnostic tracing.

You should have most by now. From the regulator I would expect the brown and purple to be your main lighting feeds. They are normally connected together at the regulator or a lot use the GP round junction box. the green will be connected to the CDI at the back and your ignition kill switch at the headset. The black should go back to the rear light via the light switch.
For me the blue is the odd one. I would have a look to see if it goes to the rear brake switch. If not where is the other end going
