Are the ends of cables,the end that goes into the lever,cast in or soldered in place? I am using extra long cables that have smaller than usual ' pulling' ends. Was wondering if it would hold fitting larger bit on with solder.

Normally soldered. This weekend I broke my choke cable and soldered a new end on and filed to shape.
I may be wrong about today's cables but that's how they used to be made and repaired.
