Gauging reaction to these Christmas Trees

As the title says, what do people think?

How my ever helpful son finds the time to think these things up & 3D print them, I have no idea! Some of you will know him (Elliot Thurland) from his brief spell in racing & the blog he created at that time. He kindly sent me this model & I have to wonder if there is any demand for such a novelty item. Should anything be different? I reckon that a ‘star’ as the washers for the handlebar lever washers might look good. I haven’t had the opportunity to ask him about the possibility of up-scaling but might that be a preference? Obviously, any maximum size will ultimately be dependent upon his machine’s capacity, but I would have thought there is some scope.

In theory, any four speed gear cluster can be printed to the buyer’s preference. For the time being it might be best to bear with just four speed as he has to rely upon what I have & he has just had his second daughter last Thursday.

What do people think is a fair price? Would any prospective buyers want to have some of the price go to charity, ideally one that LCGB would endorse? Upon that note, should the Committee consider this Post to be in the wrong section, then I apologise & hope it will be moved appropriately. That said, this is not about a money making venture - though I think costs should be covered - as it is intended to be inclusive of some means of contributing to a charity of your choice.

I hope this Post is read in a similar spirit to what is meant & I look forward to your comments :D

I visited yesterday & he’s happy to do five speed. The information he would require would be the various widths of all five gears. If the gaps between first to second etc vary much, then that information would help. I’m guessing that the form of the teeth & varying number of teeth for each of the gears will be the same as four speeders which are loosely based upon the ‘Modular’ gear concept.

In a way, my response above also addresses the question of whether somebody were to desire something special in just the four speed clusters. For example, I’ve never seen a Rallymaster cluster but confident a good replica to enhance Christmas decorations can be produced. Similarly, virtually any close ratio cluster should be produceable as long as it’s not one of the special Taffspeed clusters which had ‘bastard’ fourth - & sometimes third - gears, which did work, despite what one particular dealer may claim.

I reckon a TV200 cluster would look great atop any Christmas tree ;)
