Chain case kickstart bronze bush

Postby Dom » Wed Jan 08, 2025 5:50 pm

Hi , i have fitted some new bronze bushes to my chaincase and now the kickstart shaft is really tight , what is the best way of getting these to the correct size? , i have put some grinding paste on the shaft and have been forcefully rotating it but after an hour it doesnt seem to have made much difference
Cheers

You have to ream these bushes to the finished size with a pair of adjustable reamers. This is because the action of pressing in these thin bushes causes them to "compression buckle" slightly. One reamer is typically 21.4mm - 23.8mm for the 22mm bush and the other is 23.8mm - 27.00mm for the 25mm bush. These are readily available from fleabay and the likes.

There is about a 25mm gap between the 2 bushes and whilst you can't ream all the way through here with the 25mm, there is sufficient headroom for the ends of the 25mm reamer to cut the whole depth of bush.
If you already have some reamers and for some strange reason your 25 reamer blades dont reach the end of the bush, then I would suggest partially pressing in the bush, ream until the kick start fits firm, Press the bush in all the way and ream again to finish.
A bit of a bake, I know, especially if your bushes are are already pressed in.
Good luck.
