Hello all, first post . Bought a Jet 200 about 3 years ago and I’m just getting round to getting it back on the road!!! It’s the first Lambretta ( Servetta) I’ve owned, I’ve had 6 PXs , a T5 , a couple of LMLs and a 50 special small frame over the years so I’m not new to geared 2T scooters. I’m going to keep this scooter as original as possible so will aim to re use most of the parts if possible, I’m not even going to paint it , it’s got light surface rust but it’s pretty solid . At the moment the engine is out and stripped, I’ve yet to start on the frame and electrics . I’ve noticed a couple of cracks in the engine case around the gear cluster bearing race . When I’ve figured out how to post pics I’ll post the pic of the case . I’m hoping it can be welded and would appreciate some expert opinions

Fingers crossed the cracks are just casting marks.

I’m convinced they’re cracks , one of them is still visible on the casing where the gear cluster has slightly worn the casing away , surely a casting mark would’ve been worn off by this ?
Still trying to figure out how to post pics

I use postimg.cc. it's pretty easy to use.
As others have said, it's an unusual place for a crack, but what you say about the cluster wearing it also makes sense. If you mean where I think you mean, the gear cluster should be pulled away from there anyway when the clutch is fitted. We need photos really.

Tapatalk is a great way to access a forum & post pics. There is quite possibly a good reason why it's not already, but to have this forum on Tapatalk would be good..

I don't think they're cracks after all. Have any of them gone through to the other side of the casting?
If you want to put your mind at ease, just dremel into them with a stone.

Get a bit of 240 grit wet n dry on there and see if you can remove them perhaps. If you can they're not cracks. Could be innocuous flow lines from the casting process perhaps.

https://flic.kr/p/2pX8wzBCrack seems to have gone , you can still see it at either end but it’s gone in the middle, I’m just going to carry on with re building the engine using this casing , it’s going to standard so won’t be overly stressed , thanks for the comments I’ll post again soon when it’s up and running
