Registration Query

All

I have a series 2 LI150 which has a SIL200 engine, it has a reg number JRO 529K and listed as Indian 1972.

I was out last weekend and was asked why it had a K registration, my response as I have been led to believe is that it was put together in India using parts they had and as such one of the very last they did before turning out the wonderful SIL GP's, am I correct?

When Bedlam Scooters imported it they did the initial registration with the Lambretta Club, does the registration number go against the frame or the engine as I believe that the frame is actually older than 1972 but I could be wrong! Frame number is 118090-150Li and engine S602*118682

Any Ideas on this would be helpful in determining history

Registration is always based on the frame number.

Yes, it doesn't matter what it was cobbled together from. The frame number is the true identity of the scooter.

Totally wrong in every respect Lee. API made Indian series 2's from the early 60's right up to around 1990 and were even distributing them possibly as late as 1992. If yours has an LI prefix rather than a LY prefix then it certainly is pre 1973 when agreements with SIL forced them to re-name them Lamby 150. Yours therefore being 1972 should be called Lambretta and would have been built (not from parts) by API. SIL, a different company, started building Vijay Super GP's from around 1975 and continued right up until the 90's.

Hope this helps,
