Gori 175 iron kit

Postby P D: SC Chester » Sun Jun 04, 2017 8:31 pm

I've just invested in a new Gori iron 175 kit.
Planning on running it on a 28mm Dellorto And a 42 Clubman.
Anyone own, use one of these? And any jetting tips - ie sizes?

Cheers

I'd be also be interested to here from other people who have this kit it gets a good write up from RLC .
The 28 mil may be a bit too big they recommend 22mil with a 42 mil clubman.

Alright Phil, how's it going?

My 175 rebore seized today, think it's terminal, despite clutching it. When it cooled down, the kick was solid.
I think the float stuck closed on the jetex, as there was no fuel getting through when I tried to 're start.
Can't really hone it, because it was near the limit where it was ported. So, decided to invest in the Gori one a bit sooner than I intended to buy anyway. But that's the way the cookie n all that!

Read good things about the about the Gori kit, iron, slightly ported and a decent matched piston. I was thinking 28 delly, as that's what I've got on the shelf :x . Not going to risk the jetex again, better too rich than lean. MB recommend a 28mm, hopefully it won't be over kill.

Cheers

I'm good thanks Chester you ok ?
On a bit of a high myself just started a motor that I rebuilt over the past few months (nowt special)
But when it fired up on the second kicker pure joy! ( seventeen again)

I'd ask the supplier of the kit for their recommendation regards the carb and exhaust.
Too many cooks and all that. :D

I have the Gori 175 kit, a 22 jetex and currently an ancillotti exhaust. 17T front sprocket, 125 gear box 81 link chain. quick at the lights and It'll get to 50, but doesn't like it...

edit - but i have done 6,000km on it - so it's reliable

one of my mates has one of these, they are a very nice quality barrel, nothing like the indian rubbish out there, very big transfer ports that look like a 200 italian barrel, good quality casting and head, i have done a slight tune up on it, exhaust port raised 2mm and inlet enlarged to suit the 30mm dellorto he has on it, he has a tsr evo on it, and it sounds spot on, pulls well, only problem is getting the carb set up, he has it booked in for a dyno session to get the carb dialed in, its going to be a qiuck scooter when the mixture is sorted out, a realy nice bit of kit, they do also do a 200 version for the smallblock as well.

^^ - what Rich' said :) ^^

I tend to cruise around at 45mph mostly. Vast improvement on the 125 barrel though.

Has anyone any feedback on the Gori cast iron 175 kit?

https://ve-uk.com/product/gori-cast-iro ... tta-tv175/

The reason I ask. About a year ago, I bought a cheap and battered S3 TV175 engine to build up. Today, I took it out from the garage floor and took the head off. At some point in its long history, it’s been bored out to 65.60mm. Given that TV pistons of this size are no longer available and as it’ll need a new crank anyway, I am thinking that this kit may be a reasonable alternative to sourcing another TV175 barrel to use.

If it's a genuine TV175 barrel then these were often bored to 66mm (200cc) back in the day.

If you're running the original 116mm TV rod then you may be able to source a suitable piston from one of the modern kits that offers the correct compression height pistons.

There's info on the TV175 to 200 conversion in the 60s tuning manual.

Lots of options still.

I looked into this a while back as I wanted to run a 66mm piston in a Series 2 TV175 and retain the 116mm connecting rod. The most suitable option I found was a 66.0mm Mugello piston with a 30.0mm compression height.

Thanks, Adam and Benji. It’s definitely a TV175 piston and cylinder head so I am assuming it’s a TV barrel too. I’ll check later.

I have just seen your thread on the 30mm compression height piston, Benji.

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14136

I’d like to use a 116 conrod and the old barrel but the cylinder has lost a few fin edges. I’ll clean it up a bit and post a picture or two in a new thread over the next day, or so. Hopefully, it hasn’t been tuned either.

I fitted the Gori 175 cast iron barrel to my 1984 Lambretta Lince 150, still using the original SH1/20 carb and airbox and I was pleasantly surprised with how peppy it is, I stuck with the standard Spanish 150 gearbox and primaries and it has a very linear torque curve, or at least that what it feels like - a bit like riding a standard 200cc with just a bit less top end.
It cruises along nicely at 50mph.
Oh and the piston to bore clearance is massive so you have to try very hard if you want to seize it :D

Cheers,
Rog
