CHOKE CABLE

Postby WOO » Sat Mar 31, 2018 12:27 pm

Hi
How do you overcome the problem of the inner choke cable being too long.
Its too long if I don't use the angled cable support and its too short if I do use the angled cable support
Is it best to just cut down the angled cable support until the inner cable is just right.
Cheers

It just depends on,how much shorter with the angled support or how much longer without.I've just had this problem only yesterday. It was just a bit short with the angled support so we took the nut off the adjuster and screwed the rest of the adjuster a liitle further down, just giving us enough adjustment that would make the difference between the choke being open or shut.

Shorten it and put a blob of solder on the end. Make sure there's no oil in the end you're soldering by dipping and cleaning in meths a few times.

Cut it to length at lever end. Clean it and run solder over end till it stays put. Can take a while but I always do it. File to shape.
It's very easy to do.

Yesterday I had to rob the throttle guide from my tmx35 to use as a choke guide on a tmx30 on an Li Special, works perfectly now :) was about 20mm short. Spoke to Mike at Torbay Lambretta today who said “you need to use a GP choke cable the inner is shorter” .

Live and learn :D

Cheers

Or I can make you one from scratch that will fit. £5 delivered to members. I also can make them shorter for carbs on the TS1 side.

That reminds me: I’ve got one to make for a patient member. Perhaps I will make a few this week.
